CARGADORS & KARITONS at COGON MARKET – Cagayan de Oro City
Michael is one of many ‘cargadors’ who use a ‘kariton’, which in this case is a wooden cart used to carry loads around and inside the market, to bring goods and merchandise from outside the market upon delivery to the market stalls in the Cogon Market of Cagayan de Oro, in Northern Mindanao.
As far as I know, the Cogon Market has only one small freight elevator and the loads have to be brought to the 1st floor by these wooden carts, rarely handcarts, via ramps. This is reached by three ramps in dark corridors. Other load carriers also bring sacks and boxes up stairs on their shoulders or heads. This is sweaty work and the guys have bear strength from this heavy work. Despite the hard work, they are usually in good spirits and cheerful people.
Times to think about it, if the shopping bag is once again too heavy hahahaha
