It is simply not the case that most Filipinos live in walled and secured housing complexes or in condominiums in high-rise buildings. The majority of the population has to be content with often a few square metres in simple and cramped dwellings. Such extreme housing situations can be found in all cities and municipalities.
In our barangay we were in such a residential area, which stretches like a thin tube from the street to the sea. In some places it widens a bit and in others there is only space for a footpath and a stream flows underneath. In some places, the dwellings are built over the footpath to gain a little more space.
Often you find the most friendly people here when you start talking to them.
