Processing Coconuts in Balingoan

Die Provinz Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao war und ist schon immer eine Kokosnuss produzierende Provinz gewesen. Nicht immer war der Erlös für Kopra, das ist das getrocknete Kokosnussfleisch, zufriedenstellend für die Bauern,

Bei der Besichtigung von einigen Natursehenswürdigkeiten in Balingoan kamen wir durch Zufall an einer Kokosnussverarbeitung vorbei. Natürlich haben wir gleich angehalten, denn das wolltle ich schon sehen und auch filmen.

Here were literally mountains of coconuts. Workers transported them in baskets from here to there. Others broke open the ripe nuts, which had already been freed from their outer shells, and extracted the white pulp. This was then dried on drying equipment heated with wood.

Charcoal was made from the hard shell halves in quite a few ovens made from old oil drums.
