Salt Makers in Alubijid
It was on an sunday when we decided to take a tour over land in the surrroundings of Cagayan de Oro City.
I wanted to explore the peninsula of Lagundingan around the new airport for Northern Mindanao. Some parts belong also to the municipalities of Alubijid and Gitagum.
In Alubijid a road goes to the shoreline and passing the salt making area. Further, there is a mangrove eco resort with a nice bamboo boardwalk into the magroves and some huts for rent in and beside the mangroves. (A story for another time.)

When I saw the huge ponds for the salt making, I stopped and parked, grabbed the camera and went on the hunt for pictures. There was only one or two workers at this time.

After I was able to do some nice shots, I was looking for the people around. It was 11 o'clock in the morning on this sunday and most of them stayed in their houses.
After I had found someone through open doors, I had the opportunities to have a few words with some of the wives who were talking care of kids.
My language skills are limited as a foreign expat, but I was able to ask if they had no TV in the house. I got big smiles and their answer was an unanimous no, and thats why they have so many kids. Hahahaha!
From somewhere reached me the smell of fried fish and remindet me of lunch time.

Little further on the road there was a larger salt making plant. Also the ponds were a lot larger as the others. Here they used a pipe system to bring in the water from the sea.
The small salt makers had to wait until the high tide brought the needed saltwater in.

We went on to see the shoreline. Here I recognized a open canal for the saltwater to pass on its way to the ponds. Since I'm curious by nature, I stopped again and wanted to know, where the water came from.
I followed a half open pipe into the mangroves. Luckily it was low tide and I reached a pumpingstation. But nobody there either.
I enjoyed my little excursion into the mangroves to find out on my own how things functioned and at the edge of the mangrove the beautiful view out to the sea.

We passed there by maybe a year ago again and their was almost no more salt making.
We are not in contact with the salt makers, we just photograph and film.
