NON-SERVICE OF PHIL POST

SIGHTS OF CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY & NORTHERN MINDANAO - REPORT - NON-SERVICE OF PHIL POST
SIGHTS OF CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY & NORTHERN MINDANAO – REPORT – NON-SERVICE OF PHIL POST

I am a long-time citizen of Cagayan de Oro City and a member of the honorable KNIGHTS OF RIZAL Chapter Cagayan de Oro City and I would like to get something negative off my chest for once.

NON-SERVICE OF PHIL POST

The Philippine Post Office was once a prestigious institution in the Philippines. But that was a long, long time ago.

Already decades ago, one could hear and read about irregularities and corruption. I can personally confirm this for the last 40 years.

At that time, we had to have a post office box at the PHIL POST in order to receive mail at all, for the simple reason that the postman did not have money for petrol for his motorbike to deliver the mail to the houses on Malasag Road, where we still live today. Later, the postman would drop off the mail down at one of the sari-sari stores. You could then ask there.

There were scandals, with the torn open letters being found under trees in the shade and their contents looted. At that time, FĂlipinos and foreigners liked to send cash in envelopes to their families.

After 40 years, nothing has improved. Nowadays, credit cards don’t arrive for this.

For some years now, we have not received any personal mail at all; return receipts for registered mail and letters from the authorities that were verifiably sent are not delivered and do not arrive. The Post Office in Cagayan de Oro likes to blame Manila, saying they don’t send it to Cagayan de Oro City.

Some time ago we did a test in a social media group with postcards. Out of 16 postcards sent, not a single one reached the recipient.

Now it has become even worse. On Friday, 8 July 2022, I went in person to the Post Office in Divisoria and, after each person behind the counter had picked up the letter, was lectured that there is no postal service from the Philippines to Europe. This was then confirmed to us by the postmaster on duty.

In addition, in Cagayan de Oro City, the post office there burnt down on the night of 6 to 7 January 2011. Today, the Post Office of Cagayan de Oro City is housed in the ruins of this fire, which is now more than 10 years old, and in a small makeshift building.

WHAT A SHAME!
