OSMENA STREET – The place for used and new vehicle parts
Osmena Street in Cagayan de Oro is not only known by the locals, but many people from far away and hinterland, come to this street to get spare parts for their vehicles.
On most of Osmena Street in Cagayan de Oro, starting at the intersection of Recto Avenue at the height of SM up to the Shell petrol station in front of the Cogon market, one shop after the other sells used vehicle parts, which are called ‘surplus’ here, and new vehicle parts. The used parts often cost only a fraction of what new ones cost.
Most of the small shops have specialised. There are bicycle shops, shops with motorbike accessories and repair. One of the shops specialises in everything that has to do with cables in vehicles and also repairs damaged cables. A modern company specialises in hydraulic hoses and ball bearings.
In between, there are shops with new fan belts under the ceiling and many exhausts and other already used car parts such as brake drums and much more.
Many a hobbyist’s heart beats faster here and many a person spends days here to find a very special part. This requires a lot of asking and knowledge on the part of the employees and shop owners about what they have in stock.
Owners of commercial vehicles also find spare parts here. They employ their own ‘scouts’, people who search for parts for them and often enough, for used commercial vehicles. What they can’t find, they don’t have.

Many things are repaired directly on the street. On the pavements, entire engine blocks are taken apart and put back together again.
