Cargador at Cogon Market

A cargador is a load carrier. They can go about their work at seaports, bus stations and markets.
This is Michael and he is busy with his heavy wooden transport cart at the Cogon Market, in the city of Cagayan de Oro. From the delivery vehicles, he loads the baskets of vegetables, fish and other market goods onto his trolley and pushes them up ramps to the two floors of the market to the individual market stalls.
The cargadors are mostly united in cooperatives, where they are better protected from price dumping because the cooperative fixes the prices generally for all.
I captured Michael’s hard work in a video, following him from outside the market to the second floor of the market and then watching him distribute bags of ginger and other vegetables. The guys already have a sweaty job in the tropical temperatures.
